This is an original early 1970's Wolfard Glass Oil Lamp made by the Wolfard Glassblowing Company, Albany, California. -- The first one was made in 1972 and the patent was filed in 1973 (granted 1975) - #D234367
These "Classic" lamps were made in 6", 9", 12", and 15" sizes, and feature the inner oil bulb with a side fill-hole which could be safely refilled with oil while the lamp was actually lit. They are handblown from borosilicate glass so no two are exactly the same. - This is the 9" version (3 3/4" diameter) and has never been used, in fact I only put oil in for these pictures. The braided wick is enclosed in a glass tube which fits into the hole on the inner oil bulb. - The oil bulb has a capacity of 4 ozs. and a burn time of 27 hours. -- The packing box is one of the earliest ones based on the fact it is plain brown cardboard with no company logo emblem, simply "Oil Lamp", the patent number, and Wolfard Glassblowing Company hand-stamped in black ink. The company started with these "Classic" lamps and also glass votive candle lamps. They are currently located in Sebastopol, California, and in addition to these classic lamps, now make arch oil lamps, oil candles, oil flower bulbs, and oil floaters, all handblown by master glassmakers.
