Native American Hammer?

This came from a sugarcane farm in northern Kansas very near the Nebraska line. Got it from my grandmother who was married to the farm owner. It was a homestead farm with the original sod house he grew up in. I visited the farm about 30 years ago. Weighs about five pounds and as you can see, compared to a common coffee cup, is a decent size too. Looking for value and history if available.
