This clock belonged to my great grandmother who lived all her life in Richmond, Va. She was born in 1880 at the end of the Reconstruction Era and got married at 20 in 1900 but lived until 1968. Unfortunately, her husband lived only until 1925. My theory is that this clock was either a wedding present or, possibly an item she inherited from her side of the family, especially since she was widowed so young. I think it might have been made by the Sessions Company. It has an unusual looking green speckled marble appearance. I remember listening to it gong on the mantle in her bedroom as a child. I'd love to know how old this clock is.

should be door access in rear of clock...might see stamping on movement...through access opening. some look like 1 lbs. coffee can lid that pivots, others have wooden door, post photo of back of clock and any thing you can see in opening :-)

I've never seen side ornaments exactly like those on your heirloom clock before. I'm not too familiar with Gilbert Models and wonder if it might be one of theirs... If you follow Kerry's advice that might give us a lot more to go on. It looks like it might be a nice traditional American Black Mantel Clock. Thanks for sharing.

It looks similar to the one I posted not too long ago (especially the dial) and Bruce99 was very helpful in helping me identify it - Thanks Bruce! - some more photos would likely result in the same 'positive identification' for you.
