    Picked this up for a couple bucks at the thrift store. It looks unfinished, so I've been sanding it. As I knew it would be, the wood grain is gorgeous. I have no idea what kind of wood it is, or what the markings mean on the bottom. I just know I like it.

      Hmmm - Am I the only one that sees a face on the side in the third pic?

      It is red cedar and yes, it is unfinished. The holes on the bottom are from where it was mounted on a 6" face plate. There is indeed a face in picture three. Probably sell on eBay for good bucks. Everyone on there bids on the faces in everything from pancakes to french fries.

      There are two red cedar turnings on my page you can compare this to for wood identification. Both of them have Australian friction polish finish.
