    Norgenisse
    (1 item)

It originally came from a Norwegian immigrant family in the Dakotas. The painted rosemaling is pretty faded but it appears to be Baroque, a pre-rosemaling technique we've been told. The metal is all hand-hammered and the inside lid is that beautiful green and black pattern. It is 36" long, 18" deep and 16" at highest point. My background is full Norwegian so I love it. Does anyone have any thoughts about its age, etc.

This is a beautiful trunk. I am a bit out of my depth on this kind of trunk, but I will say that the nails look handmade (from your center picture you can see that each one is different) , which would place this earlier than 1800. My amateur guess is from 1750 to 1800. I would not know how to age anything earlier than that. I hope that other more knowledgeable contributors on this site will weigh in. Thanks for the post and welcome to Collector's weekly!

OU-LA-LA. I agree with -Mon. I usually try to wait for his opinion so I can feel safe agreeing! Really a beautiful piece. And welcome to CyberAsylum.
