Acquired quite a collection of French half domed military buttons both gold and silver coloured. Assume the gold is brass - not sure what the silver coloured ones are made of - perhaps pewter?
There are two main sizes - marked on the reverse - most 2cm in diameter (or just under - marked 21) - or smaller 1.5 cms. Variety of maker marks on the reverse including T.W & W Paris / S.B.C Grenoble.
Motif designs are anchor or star - the former one shown is used but I have more unused. The star ones are all unused.
I also have:
gold buttons marked Etrangere Legion by T W & W Paris - all unused
gold buttons with anchor motif, no reverse maker mark and much flatter (these are used).
Any thoughts as to dates, material or provenance received with many thanks.
Etrangere Legion is the Foreign Legion.
T.W & W Paris Is it a button factory? We’re does it stand for?
