((First I would like to say THIS!! is not a photograph..:-)....I had no idea were to categorize this as there wasn't an art section...so hence "photographs"..I am presuming CW will change and will be interested to see to were...:-/..))
I would like to share with you one of my favourite paintings…
Before we moved to New Zealand from Australia we used to collect Australian Aboriginal art… well! my husband did, I really liked them but was more into Boyd pottery some of which I have posted.
What I love about them is the naivety and the bright almost gaudy (tango ;) colours that were sometimes used, when you first see them you think a child could do that but when you really!!!... look at them they are exceptionally well done and the colours are like that in Australia, bright and colourful. They are all done in watercolours and are of outback central Australia.
This one was done by Clem Abbott, who was just one!!.... of the great artists that came out of the famous ‘Hermannsburg School of Aboriginal Artists’… his work is in the style of Albert Namatjira and his followers..he was born in1939 and died 1989.
The painting is dated ‘Feb 88’ and signed in the right hand corner, it would have been one of his last paintings….and I think it is wonderful.
The third photo is another painting we have and is painted by Peter Tjutjatja Taylor another one of my favourite paintings.
At the forefront is a Ghost Gum, a native tree found in central and northern areas of Australia. The Ghost Gum, (white) hence its given name by the local Aborigines and has significant 'Mythological" importance to the culture of the Aboriginal people.
Thank you for looking and I hope you enjoy them….:-)

You are fortunate to have these wonderful paintings Inky. As you say they are deceptive in their naivety

Great piece. I found one last year on my birthday. It's by Landara, AN's son-in-law. I'll post it for you.
Ulysses_8...would love to see it....we too have one by Benjamin Landara!....:-)
Really nice piece of work. The name sounds familiar.
Yes, Benjamin Landara, that's it. It's a simple one, I'll load it up tomorrow.
Thank you for introducing me to this school of artists. I really enjoy the work you shared here. I look forward to learning and seeing more. The way the texture of the trees, rocks and plant life is painted is really intriguing. It is such passionate work. It makes me want to run to the airfield and get a flight to Australia. Thank you Inky.
Sincerely,
Lisa
