    2nd lighter info request.

I recently purchased this lighter from a yard sale and have no idea if it is real or what type it is. It is stamped "dunhill" "made in switzerland" and "us re24153 or 24163". It measures approx 2 1/2" x 1" x 1/4" and is stamped with a 73 inside where the flame would be.

    Any information is greatly appreciated

can i ask you one more question...is the number i see 24153 or 63?
    6. aghcollect aghcollect, 10 years ago
The first link above will tell you how to date them by the reg. # - the second link will give you an idea of values.
    7. vegaspuf, 10 years ago
is there a pattern design name? or are they all called rollaglas?
    8. aghcollect aghcollect, 10 years ago
Rollaglas is the "type" based on the roller on the side to operate. The case patterns probably have different names which you can probably find through researching. According to the first link I gave you, the reg# 24163 was on 1960-1970 models. If you try googling "dunhill lighter advertisements" sometimes you can find out not only the pattern name, but how much it cost back then.

Super information, aghcollect, and thanks for the great link to date the lighters by the serial number.

vegaspuf, your lighter is the "Tartan" pattern. You can email Dunhill's customer service, including a small photo of the pattern, and they can confirm the pattern name.

I had this lighter in silver. Bought it in Switzerland the summer of 1970. If I remember correctly it was called Tartan. I have no idea if that will help you. Or if indeed that same pattern was used for years before or after I bought mine. I can tell you that during those old smokey days it was a joy to use. Always worked and I felt like a princess. ;o) I hope you get as much joy from your dunhill.

Thank you EVERYONE for your comments and knowledge. This Dunhill has been a little easier to figure out. It is a Dunhill Rollaglas Gold plated TARTAN pattern from the 70's. I am confussed however at the vast difference in pricing on the internet/ebay. I see one at $20 and another $275 another at $100, etc. Why such a difference? Again, was my $60 investment a good deal? thanks again.

You are making the same mistake everyone seems to make. You are looking at asking prices rather than what they are actually selling for. You can ask any price but finding a buyer is another story.
    13. Lisa-lighting Lisa-lighting, 10 years ago
With regard to second guessing the price you paid, Do you like the lighters? If so and you have already paid for them, then yes, you got a good deal. Enjoy them. Dunhill has or at least did have great reputation and they were quite a prize to own. The knowledgeable collectors say that you should buy what pleases you. Buying simply for investment is often a road to no where. They are well made, look to be in lovely condition. Classic patterns, lovely colour, a great addition to a relatively new collection.
I hope that helps a little bit.

I know I may be a little late on this one, but if you gently clean the inside of the top, there you will find black and white squares and I believe there will also be a "d" there as well. Yours are only worth anything if they are in great working condition. This type of lighter does have specific problems, rendering them "iffy" on the price.
