Hello all. I believe this to be a Scrimshaw Toothpick Holder. I know that there are fakes out there. I tried a hot needle and it is not plastic. I really don't know how old it could be. Also having a duck design isn't so typical of what I have seen out there. I think it is a wonderful piece. How can a person determine age? Or if it is a fake? Or if it really Native American?
They make fakes that the "hot pin" test doesn't work on now. See my walrus tusk poste that had a state archives expert fooled. Get a lope or good magnifying glass & see if the "scrimshaw" is done with a rotary tool. If so, you have probably been "had".
