A couple of weeks ago, when visiting the Amstelveld market in Amsterdam, I came across with one of the most interesting wash sets I've seen (some notes on wash sets at the end of the page):

    - small sized (compare to the cup or bench in the photo background)
    - stand: white painted (enamelled?) iron, with a Delft-blue stripe
    - basin: porcelain, divided in two compartments with handle and profusely decorated with girly/female motives: girls playing with water and bathing, young women carrying articles or doing diverse tasks, etc.
    - jug: porcelain, decorated with similar motives but bigger figures.

    I baptised it "A girl's playground".

Given these remarkable features, I suppose this set belonged to a higher class (Amsterdam?) family, in which the girl(s) had her own washing set. The divided washing compartment is quite unique (I browsed many wash sets pictures and didn't find anything alike), allowing two separate "waters"; because of the small/shallow size, the handle proves highly ergonomic, sparing the back of the user when taking and carrying the basin.

The motives certainly provide plenty material for further research, given their "cartoonish" character. I'll definitely try to find similar examples of this piece, along with additional information about its fabrication and usage!
