I don't know what it is either but my late mother in law had one. She isn't actually late she is dead. She was a school teacher for 40 years and always used hers as a book mark to hold her lesson page. Might be worth researching, might not.

Abe, all we did is plant a seed for thought. You listened and researched it. Many people ask and never listen because they don't like the answer. It is easy to get tunnel vision when you are researching an item. If you don't find it quickly ask for suggestions to break you out of the trance. You may not get a hit every time but it will give you more ideas to work with.

I'm back again. I had a haunting thought.....I hope you don't think this has gold value. Unmarked it is plated or gold filled and basically worthless for gold value. Collector value as a book mark is what you have. All that glitters isn't gold.
