Accessories for children started to be trendy in the post-war WWII period, when the insurgent middle-class could afford them.
One item that is the perfect expression of this historical moment is the “beker/ houder voor lepeltjes en/of vorkjes” or “cup/holder for little spoons and/or forks”. It was used to hold small cutlery next to the children’s plates.
I couldn’t find many references to this sort of item in English, so I assume it’s more typically Dutch or North European.
These items are often sold in Dutch second-hand websites, such as Marktplaats, etc. And what a great way to introduce your children to the marvellous world of vintage!

I have never seen these before - as you say a sophisticated thing for littlies!
Yes, I suppose they were sort of trendy among the wealthier middle-class families. I hadn't seen it before either. Thank you for commenting!
