** The Ontario No. 1 was built for the Ontario Car Ferry Company Ltd., Montreal by the Canadian Shipbuilding Company Ltd. at Toronto with a length of 317.0 feet. It was launched in 1907 and was designed to carry 30 loaded railroad coal cars in addition to passengers on the route across Lake Ontario.
This service began in 1909 and lasted through 1942.
