Produced between 1959 and 1966 this design by Tapio Wirkkala was called "Rengaskaulapullo" or "Ring Neck Bottle". Daggy name hey?
It came in this size 23cm (9 in) and a taller one 33cm (13in) although both seemed to have the same base diameter of 11cm (4.5in).
It came in this olive green or brown, and with matching tumblers which seem pretty rare.
I have a couple of his "Thule" pieces that look like they are made of ice.
Lucky you, Racer!!! $4 for this beauty makes it an amazing find!
This is one of those designs I always wanted to have butnever was able to get :(
Thanks Austro. This style is right up your street so hopefully one will pop up for you!
I will never be like Sean but I admit this was a very lucky find.
I am always amazed that glass like this gets "lost" in families and sent to charity shops.
FABULOUS FIND.
LOVE THAT RING!
JEALOUS HERE LOL!!! Very beautiful!!! I need to find something like this!!
Thanks racer!
Well, I think we are either a chosen few or a crazy few to find beauty as well as appreciating somebody's hard design work in these items (plus the value of having survived till our days) and thus we want to keep them and preserving them. Most people will just think of them as old stuff and will prefer to pay much more for recently designed and manufactured items that will probably have zero value in the future.
Thanks guys for your comments.
Thanks also for everyone who has looked and loved
good (hungry) eyes, and lovely to find out you got more than you already loved (signature).congratulations!!!
Thanks artislove! Lucky find :)
I found one of these today for $4.00 as well. Mine has a nice amount of wear on the bottom, but only signed T W. I have seen others with the full name etched. I don't think this is one of the anniversary pieces. Sorry, I don't have a camera.
