I got this from a garage sale yesterday 7/12/14 for 50 cents. It is metal but I don't know for sure what kind of metal. It may have been brass but was so badly tarnished and the metal was corroded that it was impossible to "polish". So, I took it apart, scrubbed down all the pieces, used Rustoleum Metallic gold spray paint and the result is what you see.
It also looks like it has areas on the center section where you can hang crystals (like those used in a chandalier I think). It is equipped with a new night light in the bottom section where there are holes for the light to shine through. It has a 3 way switch. Turn it once and the night light comes on, turn it again and the top light comes on, turn it a third time and both lights come on.
It's an amazing lamp. I would love to know what the style is and whether or not this is a vintage or antique piece or is a reproduction.
If you know, please let me know.
Oh thank you so much Phil....so glad to know more about this lamp. What kind of crystals hung from it? I can see the crystals hanging from the bottom half of the curly areas but there are holes in the tops of the curly areas that I can not envision crystals hanging from there. Would love to see a picture found on Google of this lamp so I can see what it originally looked like. Thanks again.
Phil, what kind of lamp shade did it have (what shape and how big)?
Phil, I enlarged the photo and replaced it. You should be able to see it better now. I'll just measure the shade area of the lamp to determine how tall the shade should be and buy one I think would compliment the lamp. Sure wish I could find a picture of this exact lamp so I can see how they arranged the crystals (individual ones or a "string" of crystals) which would connect from the upper holes to the lower ones. I'll add another picture of the lamp showing where the holes are.
