I found this bear going through my aunt's things. She was from Germany so thought maybe stieff? He is about 30 Inches, felt paw pads. No button or be tag but looks like there may have been a tag on the chest. Anyone know what I have?

Mani will tune you up when she logs on. Be prepared to answer questions about stuffing and what the eyes are made of etc.

Im really stupid on this stuff. I have been looking for a bear with the same eyes but having no luck. His eyes are stitched underneath, the eye is not glass. The stuffing is soft purple black white and brown. His joints ars metal his limbs move really easy. I think the fur is mohair. The material isn't burlap but kind of like it. He has no stitching on the hands or feet to look like claws. My aunt was born in Germany in 1939 my cousin in Germany in 1962. Just assuming he was one or the others toy. Im in love with him. He needs cleaned but have no idea how to do it.

He is stuffed with Kapok from color you describe . What I need to know is front of body the seam look hand stictched . Can I see side veiw and all paws . Maybe stand him up . The eyes appear to be plastic . Does back of eye feel like felt ot is hard like a plastic ? He has been loved alot and lost most of his fur . Do not attempt to clean with water . I would air him out or gently vacum and then gently brush his fur . I will await your reply . PS the bottom of his feet ot paws does not look like felt but brushed cotton . Welcome to CW !

Behind his eyes seems to be a heavy felt. Belly looks hand stitched but very well done

His pads do not look like felt . I am thinking he maybe a USA bear possibly Ideal Toys . 1940 about . However Steiff did the hand sewn seam in front like yours while most did seam in back . So I can not rule out steiff but the pads have me thrown off .

PS his blond Mohair color also adds to his value much harder to find so always desirable to collectors . His pads on close up look more like a velveteen on photo . ?
    9. westsidefox64, 10 years ago
The pads seem seventeen to me
