Another painting for my Asian art collection. Found this wonderful Chinese gauche at Volunteers of America. Beautifully framed and matted and half price to boot. The frame had a few chips in the elaborate gilt gesso which I touched up. The glass was really dirty, but the back paper was still sealed and intact. I love the intricate layered fretwork matte. This looks like the real deal not a print. It's not antique. I'd say vintage 50's 60's. I'm not sure exactly what it's painted on but it looks like a type of paper to me rather than silk. There are the usual Chinese characters and a red chop mark along the side. Probably the title and the artist's signature. -Mike-
