Looks bronze or some brownish-colored steel, is fairly heavy, and that's about all that I know about it... Observationally, it has several pictures of what appears to be a samurai and geisha (or a concubine perhaps) engaged in a variety of sexual positions. It appears that someone has tried to polish the portions of the piece where these images are? The engraving and the attached metal designs or "carvings" look pretty ornate but not sure if they are genuinely hand-crafted or machine tooled. The blade certainly "seems" to be tooled but I am far from an expert so I do NOT know. Not sure if this was / is simply a display piece, or if it was actually a functional weapon at one time, and/or even used in battle? Thank you! Jason

Thank you for your input Jim. I thought it was Japanese, but not being certain I tried to keep it as vague as possible to be safe. I will change the category and post some closer / better pics this evening. I does indeed come apart (so not necessarily an ornamental piece). It is around 4 feet long from the tip of the blade to the top of the tsuba and then around another foot from the bottom of the tsuba to the end / bottom of the grip. Again, I will post pics. Thank you. Jason

I agree this is a modern Chinese replica of a Japanese Katana...
