It happened again. I found this piece yesterday, and couldn't resist. This one is a chest or a box of some kind. The top flips open and there are two bottom drawers. This one has some larger and more detailed paintings, and nicer panel work. I am going to make a second post, with enlarged photos of the writing. I am hoping someone could help me translate. The pictures above are:

    Photo 1: The front
Photo 2: The right side of the piece
Photo 3: The top, which flips open
    Photo 3: The inside

If you cannot remember which previous post I am speaking of, here is the link:

    Measurements are approximate:

    33 tall
    18 deep
    31 wide

Again I don't know if this is real, fake, a repro or an original. All I know is that it is very well made. A few things look extra suspect....the hardware and the side panels to name a few.

I think you may have been hosed on this. The raised panel, frame around the front panel and the way the stretcher on the inside top is beveled don't look right. I can't see the metal work well but it looks machine formed. The interior view shows multiple pieces side by side as opposed to one individual slab. Just my two cents and based on picture seen with old eyes.

fhrjr, I too am skeptical about the raised pieces on the front, the large raised piece in the middle and the drawer fronts. However, there seems to be wear marks in the right places for the flip top opening. Also, I don't know if I mentioned this but it is mortised tenon joinery, very similar to the last piece. I will add some more pics of the joinery later. Good news is I paid next to nothing for it, so I think I could salvage it if need be. Thanks for the honest opinion !!!

Look for a moment at the grade of wood used. Low grade and full of knots. Finished in some areas and rough saw marks in other areas. The ink on the inside of the top says a shipping crate that was reused. Getting rid of that ink without a power planer isn't easy and using a planer you never know when you will hit a nail or a staple and ruin your cutters. 118 degrees out back right now.....I need a cold beer.
