I found this tie at an estate sale. I didn't have my glasses with me at the time, but I could read made from calf hide. When I got it home and read the inside of the tag, it was made not only from calf hide, but unborn calf....geez louise, what's up with that? Handmade in Tomball Texas on the 4R Ranch. The 4R Ranch doesn't seem to exist any longer in Tomball nor could I find any reference to it.

After Kerry's Response I found this interesting paragraph:

Bob veal and slink veal come from unusually young calves. Bob veal can come from a newborn calf who was just a few days or weeks old at slaughter. Slink veal comes from an unborn, premature or stillborn calf. Unborn calves are sometimes found when an adult cow is slaughtered and happens to be pregnant at the time of slaughter. Meat from unborn calves is now illegal for human consumption in the U.S., Canada and other countries, but their hides are used for boots and upholstery and their blood is used for science.

      Interesting.....

Can't say I love it ( or click on Love it either ) when it comes from an unborn baby calf. No offense to you (just my personal point of view) since I grew up on a farm and had many barn-yard pets.

      Just me.... :-(

I think interesting...the highest dollar cattle meat on market is the unborn also.....with things as they are...the usage of the hide would be a by-product and usage forthwith . As for usage as tie...don't agree with totally, but interesting item.

Thanks Kerry for taking time to comment, really appreciate it, and inspired me to look up more information on unborn calves which I have included in my description.

Yuck! Yuck! Yuck! Cool...sort of. Learned something...but gross.
Sean would wear it, slave to fashion. :))
He'd also wear those doe skin gloves I posted...probably together :))

Thank you Sean, I'm glad someone would, although I think it might look pretty darn snazzy!!

Oh my, picturing the doe skin gloves and this tie together, what a statement that would make. Not sure what exactly, that I'm a carnivore? It's really soft Amber, as soft as a, baby's bottom? nah. As soft as velvet? no, not that either. I know, it's as soft as an unborn calf. Yeahhh, gross huh?
