I found this old vase at an estate sale. Does it look Chinese? It seems pretty old. Does anyone recognize the marks on the bottom? How about the colors in the vase? Does that lend itself to a particular time period? I appreciate anything anyone can tell me about it.

Some of our Chinese pottery experts will help with ID but in the meantime check out this web site to help you find the maker:

I have looked but most of the marks have four characters. Mine seems to have two. I have no clue. Anybody with advice, please feel free to post. Thank you!

This vase is awesome! racer4 has the right idea, that site, Gotheborg, is the place to go. It takes a lot of time and effort but if you continue to study it, you will find it. I found mine there a few years ago and it took time. The only other thing I can suggest to you is the big auction houses or someone that can actually read it. Good luck and let us know what you find :)

Thank you, Shareurpassion and idcloisonne for your input. I do need to get it figured out. It is a slow but fun process. I will keep looking and hope I can figure it out. Also, idcloisonne I will take a look at gotheorg.com and see what I can find. Thanks again for your input. I truly appreciate it. Have a great evening! :)

One more thing. I did go and check out the gotheborg.com site and I saw the plate. It is similar but still different. Do you think it is strange that mine has the bright yellow and orange? The inside is rough and it doesn't seem like it was glazed. It is spooky so I don't like sticking my hand in there. It is very dirty and I haven't washed it because I am afraid it would do something to the vase. Also, the bottom markings are really worn and I can't make out the second symbol. I thought maybe it reads "great Japan". I just don't know how I will find out unless one day I see one on this neat site. If you spot one be sure to tag me. Thank you again!

Thank you, thank you. So it could be either or. Hmmm. More research. ;)
Do you think it is from the early 1900s? I wish I had an idea what to value it at for insurance purposes...

I showed the vase to an expert who stated, "it is looks like Chinese vase circa late 19 c -early 20 c." Nice to know! Thanks, everybody for your input. Cheers!
