This is my father back in 1949/50 I believe. He played basketball for Verona, Missouri, and made so many points for a record year. Bazooka printed it on the inside of their bubble gum wrapper. It is also listed in a magazine called All Sport during the same year. He ended up playing in the Cage Classic or North South basketball tournament. My father died back in 1996 but my sister and I both have one of these wrappers - mine is laminated and hers is wrapped in loose wax paper.
I've never seen another one or heard of another one. Has anyone else ever seen one?? I will always cherish it!!
very very nice and sorry about your father!!
Thank you Sean68!!
Your very welcome Cinda :) welcome to cw !!
What a lovely post!
Thank you, Virginia!
Hello Cinda, I realize this is 10yrs after you've posted but wanted to chime in. The wrapper was most likely issued in 1950 by Topps Chewing Gum. Topps had introduced 1-cent Bazooka Gum the year prior, whereas before that it could only be found in a 5-cent roll. This series of comics has been called Know Your Sports/Sports Oddities and they are quite scarce. I have one example of the wrapper featuring your father and appreciate the story that now goes along with it. Do you know if Topps obtained permission to use your father's likeness for this issue?
Thanks again for posting.
