I have never seen one like this. It is a tiny table with a beautiful watercolor. The characters are so charming. It was a recent purchase and I haven't even had time to clean it so you can probably see the dirt on the glass. It seems to have some water damage...another reason I haven't cleaned it. I do not see a signature but it may be under the "frame". Not sure what to do with the fragile thing but I didn't want it to get thrown out. Any tips or thoughts are appreciated. I need to research how to clean a water damaged watercolor. I just bought another beautiful piece today that also had a little water damage...sigh. More work! Anyway, these are most likely not terribly valuable but they are pretty and I would like them to stay with us and not be destroyed because they weren't taken care of. Thoughts on where my tiny table could have come from? Please forgive me if I am not putting these in the right category.
Thank you, idcloisonne for (almost always) singlehandedly answering my questions. I was pretty sure someone built the little table around the painting. The colors are still so beautiful...even through the dirty glass. I will break it out of the table just as soon as I can. For now, it is safe in my house in the air conditioning and away from water. I figured she was playing a tune for the little boy in the picture. I try to imagine the sound it made when she played it. I will keep this little painting safe until I pass it on to my grandson when he's old enough to do his part and keep it "alive." Notice the little boys eyes are wide to better see his beautiful mother or sister and she is just happy. Really lovely. Enjoy your evening friend.

Thank you, for the complement. The little painting is more beautiful in person. Perfect idea idcloisonne! The other day, some unusual tile followed me home. I think it is from Spain but not certain. They came off a building maybe or at least, they had been used before but the table isn't very strong and tile may be too heavy. I will think of something else to put in there.
Don't worry, it's not watercolor. It's a special dye made for porcelain painting and mixed with Frankincense essential oil, then fired in kiln. It would had faded out completely if it's done by watercolor.
This piece could not be too old, neither too young. It employed linear focus perspective in it's painting, which suggests the artisan had learned western skills at the time of painting. It can't be earlier than 18c. However, the figure in the picture remained in Chinese Qing style, it's not likely to be made after early 20c. Guangxu - Republic in Chinese history could be a safe bid.
Hi Shrine and idcloisonne, I appreciate your postings. It is a watercolor. It is on paper. I have not taken it out of the "frame" table. I have TOO many projects currently to list. I will make it a point to get it out next week and let you know what I find as far as additional marks or whatever. Thanks again!

No Shrine. I truly appreciate the input. There is something new to learn all the time. The fact that you knew about a particular porcelain dye was interesting. I'm hoping to find the time to open the table and get out the piece. I kind of hate to right now though because my house looks like a antique/thrift store and right now, I know the piece is protected by the table... Anyway, I am almost 100 percent positive it is watercolor on paper. What makes you think it would have been faded? I can say I was surprised at how vibrant the color was. So... if it is watercolor, what would be your guess on age? Thanks again for commenting.
