Hello-
I recently acquired this Reed & Barton spoon and I'm having trouble even finding a name for this sort of "oddity". As you can see in my photo, this spoon was from The Hotel Thorndike Boston, and the engraving on it was double struck somehow. I've never come across anything like this, and even though I consider myself a good researcher, I can't find anything like this. Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology? I'm hoping someone out there has encountered something like this before & can point me in the right direction.

Thank you for the comment Tom! I brought the spoon to a respected local auction house for some further insight and I was quite surprised how 'underwhelmed' they were. The only thing they seemed interested in was the fact that it's silverplate rather than sterling -- which made me realize they totally miss the point of why the piece is interesting! I mean, it may not be precious metal, but it was made by a well known manufacturer who prides itself on their workmanship and this spoon escaped being discarded. I thought their reaction was rather strange.
