I got this stove a a auction in Mo. Everyone calls it a monkey stove, but I can't find anything on-line about a monkey stove. Some say they was used in covered wagons for heat at night. I've seen some like it but not exactly like this one. Comments.
The gloss black paint was a mistake - shoulda used flat black or satin
That socketed chisel on the floor is probably worth more than the stove. When did covered wagons have a stove like this? Look at the stack. Pretty much useless in terms of value. Probably a good decoration for your house. It will stand out with a pink wall behind it. Stove black is made for stoves, not paint.
OK you purists. I'm one too, but for a decorator, not in a collection, I think the gloss black would draw visitor's eyes much quicker. This purist approves.
I bought two just like this, but they are both missing the bottom doors, have been looking with no help. They are laundry stoves th heat the water on etc. they also have them where you can put your irons around them and when the iron you are using gets cold you take a new hot one off. Look up laundry stoves and this Martin #8 will be there thank you Janka
