kfranks, 14 years ago The maker of the jar is Hazel Atlas. They started making canning jars in 1858. By 1930 they were one of three major canning manufacturers along with Ball and Owens-Illinois. Unfortunately I don't have a value or exact date of this particular jar. Is the jar numbered on the bottom?

Kfranks, the jar has a number 9 and the /A\ symbol
kfranks, 14 years ago The molds that are used to make the jars are numbered. So the number 9 is just the mold #. I don't think the jar is worth more than a few dollars and that would be with the screw top. Its a good collector piece though since most of them break during the years. It is nice you found one in such good shape especially since it was dug out of the ground!

CuevasE, 14 years ago The house was built in 1991 on a vacant lot. There was a big oak tree in the area were I found the items, 2 years ago the tree felled. After the workers and machines clear the area I decided to cut and clean the area and leaved for grass. Removing the soil to put grass I found the first jar. The items were about 2 or 3 inches in the ground, some of them were destroyed by the tree and the tree removal worker and machinery.
john, 14 years ago i have found 3 small atlas jars in the woods ,they were exspoued by land erosion. The land that my community is on use to be a land fill for the town ending around the 1960s. I have that make but smaller . so ld say before the 60s for its age

greg, 13 years ago I done some research and the jar i have, is valued at $14.00 I got into a junk pile and I have found about 70 different jars from Ball,Kerr,Presto,Samco,Drey,Atlas, blue glass, in my research I found a site that give you pics of how Ball was printed it gave me the dates they were printed. I put in how to date my jars and found it. I have several from 1910 to 1923 But most are dated 33 to 60
