I bought this chest from a antique chest collector years ago. Supposedly it is a turkish army chest from the 4th century. No idea if this is the case. It is a wooden chest, unusual shape, and has wooden pins, no nails at all and no hardware. I have not oiled it, just like it the way it is..
I just love it, it has so much mystery to it. Can anyone shine a light on it?

The size is 43" long, 29" high, and 20" deep.
Okay I will weigh in with some novice observations. Cannot see this being anywhere near fourth century. Maybe in its construction techniques but not in age. The patina on the wood appears to be maybe 100 yrs old. There would be a significant amount of wear if was older than that and I just do not see enough. There would be hand wear where you open and close the trunk as well as places on the sides and top that should be darker than the rest. The wear and patina on this chest seems relatively even which would suggest that it is not that old. It has a great look and is unique in many ways... just some feedback.
If it was in the least little bit important the Turk would have built it right side up or the owner would have posted it right side up. You want the right answer? Post the right pictures. The fact you don't know how to use your phone or camera to take pictures is not an excuse. If you care....do it right. Although based on one picture right side up, I am older than this item.
