I purchased this Antique Toaster off Etsy.com The woman says there is no year marker on the bottom. her description says 60's toaster. but it doesnt look like its from the 1960's

I think she under estimated the age. I would put it 10 years older based on using them myself when I was in school. Nice for a collector but little value.

Well.............you paid what I would call high retail. It is probably worth $15 or $20. Never let that cloth cord sway your mind. I have oodles of lamps with cloth insulated cords but that doesn't make them valuable. If it isn't marked and you aren't sure what it is, either pass or do some research.

Etsy and Ruby Lane are way over priced. They don't even begin to be realistic most of the time. eBay is worthless for prices unless you look at the actual sale price and even then it can be inflated depending on the item, supply and demand. Then factor in the cost of posting and selling the item. Most times you are better going to a site that specializes in what you are looking for. In your case toaster collectors. You can join most sites for free and someone always has something for sale. Main stream sites are tempting but at a cost.

I wonder how she did fine? This is a common item that doesn't sell and it is unmarked. Yes, you can find them online from .99 cents to $47 but nobody wants them. I fail to see doing OK @ $22 if she intends selling it. Better to face the facts and learn than get an EGO boost and think it was a good purchase.

Yes the kids are out there. But they see the real world not the dream world. They know the value of a lollipop. Pretty smart kids.
I have no idea what is going on here. I am 31 years old and have 4 kids. This was my first time buying something i thought/is vintage. $22 i spent was a lot i guess but it was money i made from a Refund (chia seeds i ordered) plus money i got from doing surveys online.
No problem aeroslove. The debate isn't about you it is about the toaster. I am sure TubeAmp will post for us to show others who have made a profit. The children in the yard is his form of sarcasm directed at me. Disregard that.

I will wait for the validation that you made a good buy. Anyone can say you did good or bad. I am sure Tube will show us actual sales to show you did well. I didn't happen to find any that actually sold for what you paid. Obviously Tube has insight we don't have. We will learn together.

I am not sure what your point is. Shipping does not constitute a profit, it is a cost of doing business. You are comparing marked v. unmarked items. I will stick with my statement she paid high retail. If she intends to use it as opposed to turning it for a profit all is good. If she intends trying to turn a profit I see a real problem.
I am keeping the toaster and using it. So im not going to sell it more then $22
aeroslove....that's the important part....you're using it and have a classic style toaster...all good....I paid more for my electric toaster...around 60 bucks....but it leaves Mickey Mouse's face on the toast,,,
