where are you from? just a question
I can describe it...lol heavy sign, grey enamelware back, 4 brass holes, each corner...blue and yellow....oddity sign, the emblem on the can suggest 1957- 1961, according to research I've done on same sign, over the last 25 years
I'm from Illinois. I just recieved an offer of $100 for sign. Where would be the best place to advertise and research value? Ebay? Thank again!
From Missouri here, was thinking localized sign maybe...This one and mine are only ones ever seen. The bay might help...but never seen one on the bay
Harley oil cans sell for hundreds of dollars, this sign is much rarer!
Questions have been brought up about letter coloring being blue vs black and rivet placement. I almost tend to agree but cant find and known original to compare to.
I search Worthpoint and found one that sold on ebay in 2008 for $122.50; two in 2012 on ebay for $466.00 and $150.00; and two in 2013 on ebay for $250.00 and $76.00. They were all in similar shape. They were all 9x14 in size and no one seemed to know the age or origin of the sign. I am suspicious if it is a sign produced by/for Harley Davidson or a fantasy piece.
Thanks Jameyrd. I also noticed the Proxbid from 2005 for $1500! Never heard of Worthpoint, great info. No one in those auctions seem to know the origin of this sign.
Hey taz... I am an Antique and Vintage Motorcycle collector and enthusiast and specialize in rare pieces pre-1920 mostly signs and motorcycle jackets. I have been riding with a club since the 50s and I recognize this sign to be a re-pop from the early 1990s era. If it were an original piece, it would have value somewhere in the $2,000 range. That is why the prices are all over the place on the ones which "Jameyrd" found on Worthpoint. As low as $76.00 and up to $466.00 tells me that each time one of these fakes gets listed on Ebay, the bidders are definetely not experts. Well, I just wanted let you know what you have. I would suggest just keeping it for the next fifty years since it es an "early" reproduction and not many of them were manufactured. Peace Brotherman!!! Cali
Oh, by the way!!! The Proxbid you seen in 2005 was on a 100% and Genuine sign which sold for fifteen hundred. Since I actually can't hold and look at the patina on your sign, I actually can't say for sure weather or not it is "true vintage" but if it is, it is worth fifteen to 2 Grand!!!
