trunkman

I usually do not buy metal covered trunks to refinish -- but this one was an exception because of the hardware on it. It actually had four layers of paint on it, so I decided not to strip it all down but instead to leave the remnants of layers of paint on it for effect. Somewhere along the line an owner reinforced the trunk and added a padlock, which I left on. Although the second picture showing it painted black looks kinda cool in its own right, it is obvious that it is thick with paint up close including the hardware that was painted silver. I tung oiled the wood slats and put a semi-gloss on the metal, and some gun oil on the hardware. I will refinish the tray by taking a picture of the lithograph and printing it out and re-applying them. Fun project... thanks for looking!
Nice :).....There's a very similar one at a Goodwill I shop at. They want $75.00 for it and I think it's on Facebook too. Has the same interior compartments and the outside is original. There's a square one as well. Seems trunks are popping up all of a sudden in my neck of the woods !
Well done trunkman!
It does have impressive hardware on it.
Great work as usual, Trunkman!

T-man you really did a great job on this! I really like metal covered trunks, but they can be very difficult at times. But, you worked this one over very well indeed!
Thanks jscott -- I do not like metal covered trunks much and was half way through and realized the effect of the multi-layers was great so I stopped midstream. It is fun once you get to know trunks then to find the good ones -- the sell often times for the same as any other...
Thanks for the love Pat.. :)
