U.S. Naval Training Station San Diego California Company 39-2 Jan.1939
Note on the back mentions "Regular Navy-- All Volunteers"
Local bar owner in San Francisco I had never met until last night gave this to me.
Her bar dates back to the 40's, Economy forces bars close. Some similarities to my family's pub. sad to see such local history lost.
I can't help but notice the smiles on these men's faces. Then think of what contributions they gave. How many if even 1 are still with us today. They're stories.....
They're individual contributions as a whole on our lives today.
Love it. A keeper in my book.
Hope you enjoy.
Thank you VikingFan82
How you been?
Good to see you.
My grandfather joined the Navy two years after this picture but his company was out of the east coast. He has a picture very much like this hanging in his basement right now.
Thank you for stopping by. I was wondering if anyone with ties to the San Diego
camp would see this. Thank you for your service. An honor to have this picture
Glad you enjoy
I just talked to my grandfather today, I guess he was out of the Great Lakes, which I suppose would make sense, being from MN. He did other training in Florida and Virginia. He was trained as a signalmen, then they started him in underwater demolition, and then put him back in signalman training.
Great Photo, My dad went through San Diego Boot camp in 1939 and AR8Jason was right he was aboard the USS Tern which was assigned to the Pacific Fleet that ended up being in Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941.
Thank you AR8Jason
