I just spent the afternoon at the Antique Road Show in Chicago where an appraiser firmly told me that my pitcher was definitely NOT from Czechoslovakia because Czecho's didn't make this type of glass. She insisted it was made in US even though we knew my grandmother was given this pitcher, as a keepsake, when she came to the US from Czechoslovakia around 1912. I'm trying to determine its age and manufacturer. This pitcher has no markings on the bottom. It is solid overshot with black lines within. Can anyone confirm whether or not this could be Kralik?
The appraiser is using old information, and they need to buy some new books. These overshot frit pitchers' decor is documented in more recent books, using catalog pages from the Czech companies which made them. I do believe there are other companies who made similar pieces, but to say that they were not ever made in Czechoslovakia is just spreading disinformation. Many of these were made by Harrach.

A dealer insisted they were American and not czech, until I told them to flip them over where they can clearly see the marks on the pontil.
Also I learned the roadshow is pretty much a joke. First an appraiser tried to tell me my glass piece may be a Chihuly (Which I knew it wasn't) Then the other appraiser looked at it and said definitely not Chihuly.
Also had some one of a kind marilyn monroe pieces as well a bunch of transparency photos of rock stars. Somehow my appraiser ended up being a lady that specialized in sports memorabilia. She told me the rock star pieces might be worth a lot of money if they are real(Obvoiusly!), but they couldn't confirm or deny them being originals. I thought....gee I stood in line for how many hours for you to do nothing but state the obvious?
Bottom line, there are some very knowledgeable people at the road show....but I'm sure plenty of bad/incorrect advice has been given to many people.
