This belong to my grandmother and I have a extra needlepoint top for it that my grandmother gave me but I am afraid to touch it and take the value down. I do not know who the maker is are how old and would like help please.
Looks like the wood portion was refinished at one time (at least from the photos). And the needle point top looks like it is from the 40s. I have something similar. I'm uncertain if the nails are supposed to be there or were added later.
Regardless it is a very pretty piece.
This is just awesome! I think it looks great just as it is and wouldn't touch it. I will tell you from experience, that if you are not a professional that re-does whatever task you take on, then honestly, don't do it. It makes all the difference in the world. Especially if you keep the piece, you will always ask yourself why you did something like that! :) It takes all the personable oomphf out of it!
I have one with a similar design but only about half the size. Mine has an electric cord attached as it has a foot warmer in it. I believe mine is marked 1929 but not positive.
I also love the piece and thank you so much for the comments.
