I found this beautiful curved glass display cabinet for my collectibles. It had a loose leg and no skeleton key for the locks. But I really liked the double front doors, locks, wood shelves, curved glass, and the overall condition was good. I don't ever see any with 2 doors, they usually have one door with a bubble glass front. The style was perfect for what I had been looking for, and thought I could repair the leg and find a key. So the leg was nothing more than one screw, and I found a skeleton key at a junk sale... Restored for $5! I could not find any makers mark but would love to know who made it and when, so if you know or can offer any identification tips, please let me know. It's all hard wood and has both regular and Phillips screws...so maybe some were replaced? The locks seem old, but not ancient...? I got it from a young lady in rural Alabama who said it was her grandmothers, but she couldn't fix it, had no sentimental value, and could use the money. It was covered in dust and laying on its back with a leg falling off. There are no wires or lights.
I like it either way, but does anyone know if I have a nice antique, or a reproduction made in the '70-80's?
Gorgeous find and restore! WOW!
It isn't an antique and it also isn't hardwood. I think your dates may be pretty close. Condition is everything and this looks pretty well taken care of. It certainly has value and is a nice piece.
Sorry for the pics being sideways. I'm a newby
Not a problem for me because I ignore sideways pictures. I figure if it is important the owner will post it right side up.
