I was told and I think this is an early Art Donovan table lamp. I am wondering if anyone has seen one of these. It seems to be about 15 inches tall. I don't have a tape measure with me. I would really like to know. He is a fabulous artist and master of all things FIERCE! :)
Please let me know if you have seen this or another lamp similar.

Woohoo!!! I got an email from Art Donovan himself!!! What a SUPER guy! You guys check out his steampunk lamps if you haven't already. You will die! I emailed him and this is what he said in return...

Hello, Lisa, Thank you for the email. Yes, the lamp shown is one of my earliest designs, called the "Bijou" Accent Lamp. It is actually the second lamp I had ever designed, the first series being the Deco Table Lamp. I started making the Bijou in 1992 and judging from the configuration of the lamp base and what remains of the signed date, I can safely say that it was made in 1996. Your lamp has a Celedon Green shade with reverse painted palm leaves in translucent Viridian.- All hand painted and hand stitched. The satin black lamp base (steel and solid maple) that is shown has a chamfered edge which I started using in early 1996. The first Bijou lamps had a round-over lamp base. Yes, you can ship it to me for restoration and I can give you an estimate for it after looking at it. Best Wishes and thanks for the trip down "lamp design memory lane" , Art Donovan"
How great a guy is this??? Fabulous! I will send him the lamp as it has some blemishes.

Hi Vintagefran, it is refreshing to have this kind of response from such a fantastic artist. I love, love Art's work and I believe he is the greatest master living at the moment and what a nice guy! Can you even believe it. All I can say is Wow! Thank you, for the complement. I am sincere in my thoughts about the artist and his work. He is as amazing as his work. :)

Hello you two! :) This is probably the sweetest surprise that Art & I have stumbled upon in years! How kind and amazingly generous you both are, and Lisa, thank you so much your kind words and for being a fledgeling collector. It's people like yourself, who bought the work in the early years, that encouraged us on to have the faith to pursue what we love . If anyone else should happen to "stumble" onto this post like we did and are unfamiliar with Art's work, a closer look at his various collections (Steampunk included) can be seen at donovandesign.com. I'm so very proud of everything he does. :) Be well & warm regards, Leslie Tarbell Donovan

Hi Leslie, it is an honor to have you post here. Thank you! How great are you to visit this page. It has been written that you work closely with your husband and I cannot believe you found these posts! Whenever, I see a new creation from Art's genius, it reminds me of the feeling I get from seeing a Van Gogh or Rodin, in person. It would be difficult to imagine how hard the two of you have worked to see all of this through. Now, you continue to delight by posting here. Amazing...that's all I can say. There is no doubt that you are proud of your husband’s work as it is fabulous. I have one question for you should you happen to stop back by...what's the address to send my beautiful treasure to be restored? Thank you, for your kindness. Continued success and good health to you and your husband! Sincerely, Lisa McCoy
