This is an example of the onomatopoetically named ‘klukflaske’, (‘gurgling bottle’), this one designed at Holmegaard Glassworks by Jacob Bang in 1928 and belonging to the series ‘Viol’ (‘Violet’). This type of bottle is a traditional type of bottle, known from an early age, but it has been particularly popular in Scandinavia, where it is used almost exclusively for schnapps. At Holmegaard they have been produced since the 1840’s and this is just one example of a ‘gurgling bottle’. I think you can find one of these bottles in very many homes in Denmark – even if you don’t use them for schnapps, they are still very decorative!

I have posted some ‘Viol’ glasses here: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/110291-viol-glass-by-jacob-bang-holmegaard-g

Height: 26.5 cm / 7.5 in. (incl. the stopper), diameter 10 cm / 3.9 in. It was also made in translucent glass, and in frosted glass with a black stopper.
