Several examples of mottled fairy lamps (candle lamps). They are late Victorian era but, could be as late as 1900 - 1910. The last lamp, brown with gold flecks, is resting on a Clarke lamp cup which is a very inappropriate marriage. It probably had a matching lamp cup like the others at one time. None of these lamps were commissioned by Clarke and I assume them to be from the Bohemian region.

All of these lamps have the same air vents cut into the shade. There are many methods to provide air for the candle to burn, these happen to be a "wedge" ground into the rim of the shade. Assuming the manufacture would use the same method for air vents for all his lamps, I consider them all to be from the same glass house. Question is, of course, which one?

There are several examples of the mottled glass type in the Hosch catalogs, but none quite like these. Any information, thoughts, opinions on the source of the lamps is greatly appreciated.

Finally, this particular design comes in a variety of colors and glass types. In future postings I will try to show the range of colors and types.

    Jim.

Yes, racer4foir, they are very attractive lot. However, I would never light one with a candle. The risk of cracking the shade is much too great. Instead, I use battery LED lights by GO LED. Somewhere I have a photo of my cabinet with all the lamps lit. It was indeed fantastic!
