Picked this nice "Shibata" vase up from Volunteers of American today. It was on the showcase wall with some really nice silk flowers in it. Larkspur, Zinnias and one really huge Dahlia. Today it was half price so it was a very good deal at three fifty. I searched online and found a pair of this exact same vase on "Liveauctioneers" site from 2012. They described them as " Polychrome enamel and gilt decoration in Satsuma style of peacocks, bamboo and flowers on 'crackled' cream ground, seal mark, 20th century. Height 12 1/8 in." Estimated for a pair $75.00 to $250.00. Gotheborg's porcelain site shows this seal mark #88 as being a "Shibata" mark from the late 20th Century (50's-70's). Not sure if the addition of the paper label swings the date plus or minus a few years. The newer pieces have "Shibata Japan" written in red under the seal mark. -Mike-

I am always amazed at your charity shop prices...it was $7 full price!
This would be around $50 here at Vinnies or Salvos and they don't discount (until they have damaged it).

Big, beautiful and lots to look at!

Thanks Karen :).... yep $6.99 with a red tag so 50% off and no damage. There's even a 75% off. Volunteers of America pick two colors a week depending on how long it's been sitting on the store shelves. Most of our thrifts move items in similar ways.Today is the last Tuesday of the month so the whole store will be 50% off. The lines form early before the 9 AM opening and it's crazy. I usually don't go but I had my eye on a few expensive things. A jade pendant and ear rings. Taking a chance they're still there this morning. Gotta leave early and put on my battle armor...lol !

We have 50% off twice a month at our local shop.Sometimes the"good stuff" gets taken off the shelf for sale day and put back on after

That sounds like cheating to me Attwood...lol They actually put out more by us. That's when I find the best things !

Very lovely Mike - I just purchased a much smaller vase with the same design and Satsuma marked, I think they are so pretty and love the detail!
