Cape Fear River? I used to live on that river. Love the jug, but I don't know anything about it. lol
i know you miss the area - cin
OMG do I ever!!!! I lived in Wilmington. Now I live in Louisiana. :( The culture here is very neat, but I hate it here. lol
As far as your jug goes.... I'm sure you know that Wilmington has always been a major port.... even during the Civil War. If you pulled this out of the river then it could have been from a sunken ship.
The mark on your jug is a fleur de lis.
Hi, This is a very interesting example of eighteenth century New York / New Jersey stoneware. These potters regularly traded with the Southern states, so it is not surprising that this turned up in the Cape Fear River. Would it be possible for you to email us more photos, along with the height of the jug? We would be more than happy to provide you with a free pre-auction estimate, etc. Best, Brandt Zipp (Feel free to email us at email@crockerfarm.com, or visit our website, http://www.crockerfarm.com.)
