      Thanks for your comment!

The gold pieces are the beads (Gold Beads) and the gold "wire" that holds down the large flower- the rest is brass.

      Would you say is Ivory?

I will do the test right now...so, the carving pieces are made of bone? The rest of the necklace "could" be ivory?

This Necklace has been a Mystery to me...I see what you are saying with the old brass piece...it's an ugly large piece use to mount such beautiful large flower...no idea why it was done that way..keep you posted and thanks for your help..

OKAY!..Testing completed and it passed..No Melting - on none of the pieces...
I almost melted my fingers but none on the necklace...I tried another necklace that i have and it is so similar in texture to this one..That one did not pass the Test.

What would be a decent price to sell this piece?

Thanks for your response and the warning...oops. I had no idea.

I'm in Florida...market would be Nationwide if I decide to post it. I'll upload closer pics tomorrow...i tested almost everything is this necklace...so far so good.

I'll see what I will end up doing with it...Thanks again for your comments.

Hi Fara! What a cute piece of jewelry! Love the Mice beads. So where did you find this?

The last time I was trying to figure out if something was real ivory I googled, Scrimshaw. Real antique Scrimshaw pieces are made of Ivory, but can be made of different items, bone, plastic/resin. Plus the pictures are pretty big. Check out this website, http://www.westsea.com/tsg3/scrimlocker/Scrimchart02.htm, or you could google some others. To me your necklace looks to be a combination of old and newer pieces. FYI eBay forbids the selling of ivory on its site, they will pull your item if it is found or reported by anyone.

This necklace looks like a marriage of Japanese ivory ojime or netsuke beads: very small carved beads with figural designs made of various materials with other unrelated segments. The flower is a Chinese lotus, also seems to be ivory, the plain decorated beads look like ivory beads as well. The rest look like some type of animal bone.

It may be more valuable taken apart and the decorated ivory pieces sold on their own. It does make a very interesting Oriental necklace if you wish to use it as a gift. Probably put together for export from Japan in later part of 20th century.

      @lisaatlarge...You are The Best!

Thanks so much for your valuable piece of information...it's funny that you send me this comment because the necklace fell apart last week..it came loose at the end of the string uniting the Large Rose with the beginning of the Necklace...Needless to say- I was freaking out..!

I was thinking of selling it by pieces...I can make some scrap gold money from the gold separators and the gold link holding down the Flower and the rest to sell it in pieces! You save my Life..believe you me! I wasn't sure what to do anymore!

I am in desperate need of money for a Divorce Attorney and this was going to be used towards the "Attorney Funds"..I know..it sounds awful but I have to do what a Single Mother -Unemployed with a Small Child has to do...!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond...Very interesting information...Thanks Again.

      God Bless,

      Fara

      Hi
I am an expert on ivory and I agree with lisaatlargethe whole the whole thing looks to be ivory but I can't be 100% sure about the smaller beads the large beads are Japanese Netsuke beads and it does not appear to be gold just brass even the gold color spacers would not be real gold.
I think it is beautiful PLEASE don't go sticking more pins in it and it is worth virtually nothing just as components get a jeweler to restring it and sell it as is you may get up to $500.00 US for it but I doubt it in todays market.
eBay sells ivory but it must be specified as pre ban ivory meaning pre 1976 I think it is I would put the necklace at around this era.
Hope this helps PS get the "gold" spacers tested if you don't believe me.
