I found this at a local rummage sale. I know it is an old phone, but don't know how old. It has an F1 hand set. The phone also has a cloth braided cord. The face bezel looks to be brass (from the back side) but has been painted black. The rotary dial works and everything appears to be intact. The only bad part is that there seems to be no way to open up the phone to look inside. It is very heavy also. I have tried searching for something like it on the internet, but have not been able to find anything. If anyone knows anything about this phone I would appreciate it. I know that they make kits to convert the rotary phones to work with todays phone lines, but without being able to open the phone I don't know if I could get it to work.

what you have i believe is an early elevator phone. this would have been recessed into the wall of the elevator to be used in case of emergency and would have been hidden by a door that coordinated with the interior of the elevator. hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions. the_deal@live.com

Jeff is right you have a Western Electric elevator phone from the 1950/54 time frame. Western Electric made the wall phone hard to take apart so kids could tamper with the phone in the elevator. most rotary phones will still work on todays telephone Co. electronic switchroom.
