Exterior is fabric canvas covered All fine brass hardware,Over 75 brass nails, double locks, interior tray and linen covered interior ribbon both handles in tact. Kids nicknamed this one "Chocolate" due to the color third one in a stack of five French trunks. 24 " long 21 " ht. 21" deep. Refinished in 08
Beechwood slats finished in red chestnut finish.

Yes, the brass. What are you doing to it that makes it look that good? I have a trunk I am finishing. The lock is brass about 1880, and it looks foggy and stained. Thanks.
Yes- Trunking for fun Well A couple of thoughts .1st thought is that varnish may be on the hardware (Sometimes multiple coats,) It will never shine with it on.Thus that foggy look. I use citristip paint remover first but tape it of and use q- tips.Important! Clean excess.
Thought #2 French Hardware used really good plating techniques as opposed to American Trunk Manufacturers in the last century.
I have found. You can burn through brass plating with a steel wire wheel and a drill real fast. Not a good Idea,don't do it. I use a few techniques. I use chemical means such as Goddards Brass polish or even Brasso using a million Q-tips (always clean up the residue ,(I use oxyclean carpet cleaner when brass is near fabric) .I also tape the fabric off to keep the chemical off the Fabric. No sense Destroying a Vuitton or Goyard because of laziness. take excess off right away , going to Never Dull polishing cotton and sometimes helps as well but anything with chemical be careful.
Never,Never,Never! use Denatured alcohol to clean fabric it eats it before your eyes.
I will break out the Dremel tool with Brass wheels only, or polishing wheels with white Rouge fine polishing sticks.You can burn brass so to speed is set on slow.
It takes weeks of polishing to get of patina sometimes this trunk has 75 pcs. less the brass nails. It can ruin relationships with other humans so be careful there good luck

Awww...Nice Truck...with the 5 bands. Chocolate is a Good name for it.
Mine I guess I will have to call *Greenie* and it only has 4 bands -- but it is still all original

Thanks for the info.. I'm adding it to my trunking notes. Il be polishing for a bit but will post the finished trunk. I believe the lock is Solid brass as it is not magnetic.
"Greenie"- may be an Italian made trunk for if you search the word "FISAM" that is on the lock- Milano/ Lambretta tool box locks comes up. This would make sense to me as I have seen the side handles on another italian makers trunk. Yours is not a toolbox but this could be a clue as to it's origin. I'll search to see if I can find that Link again, may take some time. Thanks for the nice words About "Chocolat".
