I actually bought this ashtray about 20 years ago on ebay. It's about 8 inches wide and about 7 inches tall, and it has Austria inscribed on the back. I believe it to be from the Art Nouveau period, at one time I knew the name of the artist who made it, but I've since forgotten. I liked it as soon as I saw it because of the bronze figures of an older boy showing a younger boy how to smoke cigarettes. Anyone over 30 years old has to be able to identify with this. Now they have electronic cigarettes, and tobacco isn't as widely accepted as it once was. There was a time when this country was being settled that tobacco was actually used as currency. Things are so much different today.
This is fantastic! I love it!
Thanks pops52!
PhilDavid AlexanderMorris, You may be right, It has a chip on the side close to where it says Austria. If I posted a picture of the area where it is chipped would it help you to determine the material?
Beautiful!!
Thanks SEAN68!
Your welcome Vrgdc!!!
Oh the good times when kids were allowed to smoke...
mcheconi, When were kids allowed to smoke?
That is so politically incorrect it is great. Plus it is a beautiful piece.
Phil,
There's no way light could shine through this material. I'll post some close up pictures tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
Phil, Ive been busy so haven't had the time to take the pictures, but I will soon.
Exactly!
Phil, I'm sorry it took so long, but I had some issues to deal with.
