The first Sunday of the month is a day at Wenty for a few of us here on CW. Yesterday I caught up with OZMARTY and RACER4FOUR at the dog track on a morning when we rugged up for the race around the stalls. I made a couple of purchases: just two. The first to be posted is this little piece of architecture in copper and brass.
The Deffner firm was established in Esslingen in 1815 by Carl Christian Ulrich Deffner and existed through several generations of the family until 1969. Around the period before WWI the company was a very large concern employing around 500 people. Carl Deffner (1856-1948) took over the firm from his father Wilhelm in 1900 with his brother Otto (1866-1949). Esslingen am Neckar is a city in the Stuttgart Region of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany.
The style is Jugendstil - the German form of Art Nouveau.
The patina is original.
Love the little box above the drip tray, the swoop of the generous handle and the pedestal base!
Lots of references to designs from the period.
The mark is tiny on the base. Two crossed halberds and the letters C. D. above an E.
Dimensions: approximately 7" high x 2.5" base and 4" overall width (including handle.)
By the way: it's a candlestick!
