This doll was in my husband's fathers sewing store in our town from the early 1950's where he sold many, many Singer machines. She now graces my sewing room

What a wonderful Miniature mannequin ! I have collected these for 25 years . I am in love with her . How tall is she .
Most of these were made in 40's and were used to display miniature adult style clothes you could buy in full size or the pattern. It saved on material to make the clothes smaller . These have a place in history as during WWII Material was hard to come by and expensive . Several companies made them . I Believe yours might have been a Model for patterns as I have no record of Singer having a girl like her . They did a small one which I think was ugliest one ever made but she came with beautiful patterns and very nice graphics on box she was only 12 inches tall . These are prized by us mannequin collectors . Your very lucky to have her :-)

The ones like yours and so many that records are sparse on makers , She may be Rubberlite manikin or Darling Co . Singer sold the miniature 12 inch one with a singer sewing machine and Butterick patterns machine , Those sets were made for children and yours was a display model . I will post a Singer Childs set for you to see :-) The mannikin they put in set is rubber and not attractive to my eyes , Yours is much higher quality and would have sat on store counter or they used her to sew clothes for , How tall is she ? There are patterns for 30 inch size .
Some of them are marked with a paper label or impressed name does she have any on her ?

Oh one more thing I am not sure that she has not had some repainting done which may be her hair ,eyebows and possible eyes . Their hair was always airbushed also eyeshadow so the slight change may be making it hard to say for sure who made her . It was not uncommon to update them as they were used so much . Maybe you can tell me if she is airbrushed :-)

Thank you for all of the information and interest. "Grace" is indeed 30 inches tall. She was in fact part of the display in the Singer Store in our town from the very early 50's. There is no mark or label of any kind and the painting appears to be original. The skirt is felt.

She is a treasure and hope you keep her story pinned to under her skirt so it stays with her . I see someone made her a blouse with a S on for singer :-) She is not a common face to see . So little was ever kept about these mannequins it is years of studying them till you can maybe attribute one to a maker, My Favorite sculptor is Margit Nilsen she made the 1st ones in 1938 and they were in Macy's window NYC . Yours does not look like her work . I appreciate you sharing her .
