Adorable cloth doll with plastic painted face. Head is cloth stitched under hair in back. She is 14" high, has blonde pig tales with ribbons and short bangs. She is wearing white bloomers with ruffles on bottom and tied with string. Her red and white polka dot dress is tied with pink ribbons in back and around front collar and waist. She has puffy short sleeves gathered on the bottom. The white clothes appear to be muslin. Her shoes are sewn on and also made of cloth. They have cardboard? soles and have string shoelaces that look to be sewn on as they are not removeable. Her hands were made without fingers only a thumb impression. Her eyebrows are very arched, and her eyes are side glancing and vertical in appearance. Her painted lips are partly outlined in black. I don't know if she is a mask
doll, a rag doll, or if the face is plastic or composition. She is probably from
the 1930's or 1940's as she has been in the family since then. I like her because of the cute expression on her face-what's not to like? Can anyone
tell me more about her? What type of doll is she? Is she made in the U.S.?
Our family is from Germany, so it is possible she was bought there.
Hi your doll is what we call a mask face . Her face is surrounded by cloth no back to it , These were popular in 40's and 50's . Many were made in Poland ,
Their face can dent easily as they are not real thick.Yours is factory made however they did and still do sell just the mask faces and a Mother would make the doll from a pattern . I had one as a Kid too :-) They were not expensive dolls at the time so many were sold . All different facial expressions . I found one like yours for you to see . Cute and hope this helps .

Oh and most of the faces are made of celluloid which was banned in USA after they realized they caught fire easy sometime in late 40's .
