Any info on this trunk would be much appreciated
I’m new to the site and trunk refinishing. I’ve been interested in trunk refinishing for about 3 year now and actually have purchased 5 trunks.
This is likely my best condition trunk so I’m making it my 1st project. I was able to obtain 2 keys for the locks already. I think I’m going to try to keep the canvas being there are few/no tears. Not sure about the interior work or straps replacement
Thank you in advance for any info on the trunk
Jeff
You certainly came to the right place! Hey, T-Mon, where are you? We have another addict. We have trunk experts here. Bon chance & welcome to CW (CyberAsylum).
1900s to 1930s (One of the most popular styles of trunk ever made.) Many manufacturers of this style.Canvas covered- Probably basswood box , Nice double locks,(Always more desirable) All Hardwood Slats,
leather straps and strap guides in decent shape. 1 deep top tray, fancy paper lining.
Hard to say who made it positively .Having said that I have seen M.M.Secor use corner hardware such as this on a trunk that I once owned, refinished and sold. They also used embossed lines down the leather banding. But others may have done the same.I have had good luck cleaning the canvas with Oxy clean carpet and upholstery
cleaner. Good luck with it and welcome to the site.
Thanks Blunderbuss2 , Drill
