I served on HMAS Perth DDG for over three years of my 26 year career.
Just prior to decommissioning , they took the original plaque away and got 23 copies made at the ship yard foundry.
Solid bronze and weighs about 5 kg
One each for each of the Chief Petty Officers onboard.
I was the CPO Medic.
After over 3 decades of service she was decommissioned in 1997.
A treasured memory, proudly displayed .
What a beautifully built American Ship!!
Amazing that when they were built, they were called Tupperware ships.
We used to laugh at FFGs.
I guess it's a generational thing.
They were well built, 333 crew, fast but not designed to last 30 years.
We had to decommission them eventually.
I was on her for 10% of its life.
Hard work, but work hard play hard made it life changing.
