Today, I picked a mystery bag of silver. In it was a Georg Jensen silver salad set. I think the pattern is called Cactus. The handle on both pieces is marked "Sterling Denmark" with the hallmark "Georg Jensen" with dots surrounding it. On the fork only, is marked "Stainless Steel GD, Made in Denmark". The spoon does not have it. However, to me, it looks like there are repairs to both of them. Any feedback?
Also, in the same bag was a set of eight "Cooper Bros & Sons, Sheffield England", 3 tine forks and knives. They are small - 6" for fork and 7" for knife. The handle are marked "R d 867638" on all of the them. I don't know if any of these have silver content. Feedback is welcome.
Thx everyone!
great find! The only parts of these that contain actual silver are those marked "sterling" I'd be 99% sure that the Cooper Bros and Sons are silver plated, especially since they do not say sterling (0% silver). The handles on the Jensen set are usually hollowed out, sometimes almost to a "sterling foil". Sometimes more. The ends of the knives forks and spoons are stainless.
Thank you for the information. Very helpful!
