    This is an ornately detailed brass and copper oblong planter. The outer part is solid brass with a flower and leaf cut-out design. Two identical halves soldered together on the end parts with two brass stabilizer cross pieces soldered across bottom. The inner part is solid copper one-piece rolled with a folded and then soldered edge on one end. The bottom piece is soldered on completely around the bottom rim making it watertight. - The dimensions of the outer brass piece are 13 1/2" by 4 1/2" oblong and 3 1/2" deep. - The copper planter insert dimensions are slightly smaller at 13" by 4 1/8" oblong and 3 1/4" deep allowing for easy insert and removal. - The makers incised stamp on the bottom of the copper is an H and a G over a large S in a crowned shield which is an "unknown" mark (ref. OldCopper). - There are other planters and both copper and brass objects on the internet (ebay, Tias, etc.) with this HGS stamp but no one knows the origin; I also found a similar smaller brass item with the same exact cut-out design but with no HGS stamp being attributed to India (ebay seller, so info taken with prejudice) - estimated circa 1950's
